Carbon deposits and baked-on grease removed from an engine manifold using laser ablation — bare clean metal achieved without disassembly or chemical baths.
An engine manifold with heavy carbon build-up and baked-on grease needed to be cleaned to bare metal for inspection and reconditioning. Chemical soaking would have required significant time and produced hazardous waste. Abrasive blasting risked damaging the casting and blocking internal passages.
We cleaned the manifold in-situ using our pulsed fibre laser, ablating carbon deposits and grease layer by layer. The laser parameters were set to remove contamination without affecting the cast metal beneath. All external surfaces were cleaned thoroughly, including recesses and complex geometry that other methods cannot access.
All carbon deposits and grease removed to bare clean metal. No damage to the casting, no chemical waste, no risk to internal passages. The manifold was ready for inspection and reconditioning immediately after treatment.
